Authorities say a woman in Michigan was charged with murder a few days after her 3-year-old daughter's body was found stabbed in a garbage bag.

Justine Johnson, 22, was arraigned in the 81st District Court in Tavas City on Monday for felony murder and first-degree child abuse. She pleaded not guilty to both charges and is scheduled to hold a possible cause meeting on September 28.

Last Friday, a trash bag with protruding human feet was found in a residence in Iosko County, Lower Peninsula, northern Michigan, and the police received a call to the police. Police said the bag contained the body of Johnson's daughter Sutton Mosser.

Iosco County Attorney James Bacarella said the girl had multiple stab wounds on her body.

The girl's grandmother, Alyssa Johnson, said that she believes that her daughter is innocent and will never hurt her young children.

"Justin loves Sutton wholeheartedly. She will never let anyone hurt that baby," she told WNEM-TV.

On Tuesday, Johnson’s court-appointed lawyer left a message asking for comment on the allegations.

According to the probable cause affidavit, one of Johnson's brothers found a garbage bag containing the child's body. According to WJRT-TV, the affidavit stated that he had asked Johnson where her child was the day before, and she told him to leave his business alone.

The police found her daughter's body after walking along the railroad tracks for hours. The affidavit stated that she told the police officer that she did not want to talk about the death of her child.
