On Oct. 10, world-renowned musician Samite will return to perform at the historic Thrasher Opera House in Green Lake at 7:30 p.m. Samite was born and raised in Uganda, where his grandfather taught him to play the traditional flute. He performed frequently to enthusiastic audiences throughout Uganda until 1982, when he was forced to flee as a political refugee.

Though Samite was initially taught the traditional flute by his grandfather, when he was just twelve years old, a music teacher placed a western flute in his hands, setting him on his way to becoming of East Africa's most acclaimed flutists. After mastering an array of instruments, Samite decided to go solo, where he could exhibit his talented mellifluous vocals, kalimba (finger piano), marimba (wooden xylophone), litungu (seven-stringed Kenyan instrument) and various flutes. Samite's music is a joyful collection of heartfelt, trans-cultural songs. His warm voice wraps around melodies which are caressed by his native instruments.

Tickets to hear this soulful and passionate performer, are available for $23 and can be purchased at the Thrasher office, Horicon Bank (Green Lake), Pick N' Save, Ripon Drug (Ripon), Twister (Princeton), or by calling (920)-294-4279. Tickets are also available online at www.thrasheroperahouse.com
