ORLANDO, Fla. — With the threat of Hurricane Ian, NASA isn’t going to risk its $4.1 billion rocket to the moon deciding to roll it back to the Vehicle Assembly Building at Kennedy Space Center forgoing a chance to launch Artemis I next week.

“Managers met Monday morning and made the decision based on the latest weather predictions associated with Hurricane Ian, after additional data gathered overnight did not show improving expected conditions for the Kennedy Space Center area,” reads a post to NASA’s website Monday. “The decision allows time for employees to address the needs of their families and protect the integrated rocket and spacecraft system.”

The United Nations says an 85-year-old Iranian-American who formerly worked for the U.N. children’s agency and was detained in Iran in 2016 has been permitted to leave the country for medical treatment abroad. U.N. spokesman Stephane Dujarric announced Baquer Namazi's departure Saturday.  He says Secretary-General Antonio Guterres is grateful that Namazi could leave following the U.N. chief’s appeals to Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi. Dujarric says the secretary-general is also pleased that Namazi’s son, Siamak Namazi, has been released from detention. Both Namazis were sentenced to 10 years in prison on what the U.S. and U.N. say were trumped-up spying charges.

Most Asian countries are prioritizing keeping the country running, no matter the energy source. For rich countries like South Korea or Japan, this means a foray into nuclear energy as an option. For China and India, whose energy needs are enormous, it implies relying on dirty coal power in the short term. But developing countries with finances already strained due to the pandemic, the war is having a disproportionate impact, said Kanika Chawla, of United Nation’s sustainable energy unit. How Asian countries choose to go ahead would have far-reaching consequences: To choose between doubling down on clean energy or deciding to not phase out fossil fuels immediately.

Drivers fled police and met up again at several intersections and industrial parks into Saturday morning. A dozen people were arrested, 14 cars impounded and 33 people were issued citations.
