CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. (AP) — Hurricane Ian is prompting NASA to move its moon rocket off the launch pad and into shelter, adding weeks of delay to the lunar-orbiting test flight.
Mission managers decided Monday to return the rocket to its Kennedy Space Center hangar. The four-mile trip will begin late Monday night and could take as long as 12 hours.

A major German state is voting in an election that Chancellor Olaf Scholz’s center-left party hopes will bring some relief from poor recent nationwide poll showings as the country faces high inflation and worries about energy supplies this winter. Around 6.1 million voters were eligible to elect the state legislature in Lower Saxony, which occupies a large swath of northwestern Germany. Recent polls there have shown Scholz’s Social Democrats a few points ahead of the center-right Christian Democrats, the main opposition party at the national level. They also expect gains on Sunday both for the environmentalist Greens, the second-biggest party in Germany's national government, and for the far-right Alternative for Germany, amid worries about energy and high inflation.
Austria’s liberal president is hoping to be reelected without the need for a runoff vote after a campaign in which he has cast himself as the stable option in uncertain times. President Alexander Van der Bellen, 78, is seeking a second term on Sunday after a first six years in which a succession of domestic political crises has given the head of state unusually high visibility in an often-ceremonial role. Nearly 6.4 million people in the Alpine country are eligible to vote in Sunday’s election. A Russian attack on Zaporizhzhia overnight struck apartment buildings and killed at least 17 people, a top official in the Ukrainian city said Sunday. The city has been repeatedly struck in recent weeks and is in the Ukrainian controlled-part of a region that Russian President Vladimir Putin annexed in violation of international law last week. City council Secretary Anatoliy Kurtev said the city was struck by rockets overnight, and that at least five private houses were destroyed and around 40 were damaged.
Grieving families have gathered at a Buddhist temple to pray and make offerings to the spirits of their deceased toddlers who were killed amid a rampage by a former police officer who shot and slashed them with knives at their day care in northeastern Thailand last week. The mourning family members gathered at Rat Samakee temple on Sunday, sitting in front of the tiny coffins, praying while Buddhist monks around them chanted prayers. Later, they placed trays of food, toys and milk along the outside of the temple walls as offerings to the spirits of their slain children. Thai Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-ocha is expected to attend an evening prayer at one of the temples later Sunday.

Julia started Saturday as a tropical storm, but gained power most of the day and became a Category 1 hurricane shortly before it veered slightly south of San Andres island in the early evening. It is forecast to come ashore in the Bluefields-Laguna de Perlas region before dawn Sunday. The U.S. National Hurricane Center says Julia’s maximum sustained winds had stabilized around 75 mph late Saturday, just over the threshold for a Category 1 hurricane. Forecasters are warning that Julia's rains could cause flash floods and mudslides in parts of Nicaragua, Guatemala and El Salvador.

Campos’ winning kick came after Abilene Christian’s Blair Zepeda was short on a 54-yard field-goal attempt with 4 seconds remaining. Xavier Gipson returned the attempt 41 yards and a personal foul on the Wildcats added 15 yards and extended the game one play — setting up Campos’ game-winner. Stephen F. Austin (3-3, 1-1 Western Athletic Conference) jumped out to a 21-0 lead early in the second quarter before Jermiah Dobbins’ 46-yard touchdown run and two scoring passes from Maverick McIvor pulled Abilene Christian (4-2, 1-1) within 24-21 at halftime.
