RUTLAND — The Rutland Historical Society is holdings its annual Fall Festival of the Forgotten Arts from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 15, on the Rutland Town Common in front of the churches. Local crafters and artists of the forgotten arts will be demonstrating and sharing their unique talents. There will be children’s games and activities from the past, along with pumpkin carving and scarecrow making. Join in the fun of celebrating the autumn season.

HOLDEN —The Holden Garden Club will hold its monthly meeting at 6:45 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 6, at the Holden Senior Center, 1130 Main St. The speaker will be Suzanne Mahler, who will cover Putting the Garden to Bed.

The talk will cover fall cleanup, tool maintenance, preparing new gardens, plant maintenance and tips on how to prepare gardens for a New England winter. For more information, visit www.gcfm. org.

Pottery demonstration and teapot workshop

HOLDEN — Pied Potter Hamelin presents his program A Time to Spout Off: Teapots From Around the World at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 8, in the program room at the Gale Free Library, 23 Highland St.

The stories behind the teapot will come alive as you watch their 4,000-year history rise and take shape on the potter’s wheel. Rick Hamelin’s skills of throwing on the wheel will entertain you in this unique program celebrating the spouted pot and the people behind them. A pinch pottery workshop is included.

Harvest Craft Fair & Car Show

HOLDEN — The Oriol Foundation will host a Harvest Fair in the upper parking lot and grassy area behind the Medical Arts Building, 52 Boyden Road, Holden, on Saturday, Oct. 8, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

More than 40 local and unique crafters, authors and bakers will be selling their goods.

An open-to-anyone car show will be held on the rear lawn area. Classic, antique or unique cars will be allowed to park there and show while space allows.

Four food trucks — Moe’s Sweet Eats, Travelin Bones, Kona Ice and gluten-free Sabrosa Venezuela — are expected, as well as live jazz and oldie band Don’t Tell Dan. Gypsy the dwarf mini therapy horse will be visiting, and an antique 1956 Chevy pickup will be decorated for fall family photo taking. A raffle for vendor items will benefit the Oriol Foundation. All programs are free and open to the public. Dogs are not allowed on water supply protection lands. Hikes will be along forest roads and footpaths with some inclines to rewarding shoreline views of Wachusett Reservoir, the water supply that provides clean drinking water to more than 3 million people. Saturday, Oct. 8, noon-1 p.m.: Nature Almanac Club.

Meet at Stillwater Farm Interpretive Site, 228 Redemption Rock Road, Sterling. Observe seasonal changes, become a citizen scientist, and experience a deeper connection with nature. Bring a nature journal or create your own with recycled materials supplied. Meets every month, with new topics to explore. October’s topic: Witch Hazel – observation of a shrub that blooms spidery yellow flowers in the fall.

Saturday, Oct. 15, 9 a.m.noon: Hike to Greenhalge Point.

Meet at Wachusett Reservoir Gate 35, at the intersection of Route 110 and Chace Hill Road, Sterling. Note the later end time for this about 4 miles round trip along forest roads and footpaths with some inclines to rewarding shoreline views of Wachusett Reservoir.

STERLING — The Sterling Arts Collaborative will hold an art exhibition featuring local artists’ work including painting, photography and sculpture. Local artists may submit up to two works to be featured in the show by Oct. 9. The event will take place Saturday, Oct. 22, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Sunday, Oct. 23, from noon to 3 p.m. at the 1835 Town Hall, 31 Main St.

Friends of Library craft fair

STERLING — The annual Friends of the Conant Public Library Arts & Crafts Show will be held the Saturday before Thanksgiving, Nov. 19, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the First Church, 6 Meetinghouse Hill Road.

Holiday and gift items, handmade by local artisans, will fill the main hall of the First Church and two additional rooms. The fair will also feature a raffle, bake sale, and lunch café.

Signup sheets will be available at the library’s front desk in October and November for those who would like to volunteer their time or contribute to the bake sale.

Leominster Credit Union is a co-sponsor of this year’s fair.

Needle Felting with Pop Up Art School.

Monday, Oct. 24, at 6:30 p.m. Ever wanted to try your hand at needle felting? Do you think cats (especially ones sitting in little tiny boxes) are just the most adorable? Adults and teens ages 13 and older are invited to learn how to needle felt a cat using a barbed needle and wool. Patrons will get a small amount of different colors to add in a calico pattern, or they can make stripes on their white cat. Mini Art Show by Humans: Get your free canvases!

Humans of all ages and artistic abilities who also have a CW/Mars account (need one? just ask!) are invited to pick up two miniature canvases (2.5 x 2.5 inches) from the library. Create art with pencil, charcoal, paint (oil, watercolor, acrylic, gouache), pastels, or oil pastels, or mixed media. Original, human generated art only. No photos, no digital art, no AI-generated images, no collages unless all of the images were created by you. Canvases due back by Dec. 15 for a January 2023 art show.

Princeton Historical Society scavenger hunt

PRINCETON — The Princeton Historical Society added eight locations to its clue-based family, small group and/or individual scavenger hunt activity, Can You Find It? This activity began July 1, 2021, to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the town of Princeton’s incorporation in 1771. Last year there were more than 100 participants.

To join in the fun and learn about the 16 historical locations in Princeton, an updated Scavenger Hunt Game Card and Directions can be picked up at the Princeton Library checkout desk during normal hours of operation. The updated game card and directions can also be downloaded at https:// www.princetonmahistory.org/ can-you-find.

PHS plans to continue to add a minimum of eight locations each summer, which will result in 32-plus locations by the summer of 2024.
