Colombia’s Salsa Stars Grupo Niche wins Grammy’s Best Tropical Latin Album | World Music Center

Album 40 Celebrates the 40th anniversary of the legendary Colombian salsa band Grupo Niche, and won the 2021 Grammy Award for Best Tropical Latin Album.

The ensemble was adapted by the producer and multi-instrumentalist Jose Aguirre. Forty records are in Bayamon (Puerto Rico), Miami (United States) and Cali (Colombia). Guests include Cuban violinist Alfredo de la Fe, marimba master Hugo Candelario (Colombian Pacific Coast) and Colombian percussionist Epifanio Bazán.

In addition to the elaborate salsa dance, Grupo Niche also showcases the rhythm and percussion of the Pacific region of Colombia.

The current lineup includes lead singers Alex Torres, Luis Araque and Alejandro Íñigo; Juanito Murillo playing Conga drums; Diego Camacho playing timbal and cajon; Fabio Ce Lorio (Fabio Celorio) plays tambourine; Hector'Pichie' Pérez percussion; pianist Victor Gonzalez; bassists Jhonny Torres and Sergio Munella (Sergio) Múnera); José Aguirre is good at keyboards, guitars and trumpets; Carlos Zapata and Oswaldo Ospino trumpets; Alex Zapata trombone; tenor saxophone Paul Gordillo; and Wichy Camacho and Alex Torres , Luis Araque and Alejandro Iñigo served as backing singers.
